Heathrow benefits from Australia travel plans
Heathrow airport experienced a spike in travellers in May, with 6.7million passengers visiting overseas. Of these the top region was Oceania, followed by East Asia. Domestic flights grew 2.2% too. This was the 31st month in a row for passenger expansion for the Heathrow hub.
BBC boosts international audiences
The BBC gained 50 million extra viewers and listeners over the last year, according to the Global Audience Measure. This grew the Corporations international audience to 426 million. Most of the additional viewers joined to access news services, Dex (2019).
Good news for Digital with jobs and awareness weeks in June 2019
One fifth (20%) of all British job vacancies are in the digital tech sector, according to the Digital Economy Council, Warrington (2019). According to Margot James, Minister for Digital and the Creative Industries: “82% of advertised openings require some level of digital skills and, roles requiring digital skills pay 29% (£8,300) over those roles that do not (£37,000 vs £28,700) with the premium increasing at higher skill levels.” A focus week for Digital Leaders Week runs from 17-20 June 2019, find out more here.
Tesco considering the launch of specialist stores
After a strong first quarter for 2019, Tesco is considering opening a network of convenience stores, focussing on its Finest range, Onita (2019). Key strategic focus areas for Tesco will include testing new tech, different store formats and cost reduction to improve profit and revenue targets.
