Creating Marketing Leaders

The CIM Marketing Leadership Programme (Level 7) is a Masters equivalent course.  It has been designed to equip marketers with the skills, competences and capability to lead business critical projects.  It helps marketers or similar roles to transition from operational and managerial levels to enable them to work at Board Level, where performance and accountability are prerequisites.

What will you study?

The course programme helps candidates to define and deliver a vision and convert it into a reality.  This relies on deep insight, smart planning and agile delivery.

Unit 3: Managing Business Growth and/or

Unit 4: Consultancy

The compulsory units focus on essential elements leaders need to develop and deliver on.  These can be set in context to the work environment and tutors act as facilitators giving vital focus and support through key tasks and assessment that replicate the work situation.  The electives allow personal choice, whether to focus on growing a new business, re-energising an existing business or moving into consultancy roles.  Only three units are required to complete the CIM Marketing Leadership Programme and single units can be added to your portfolio at any time. This allows you to maintain career momentum but also flexibility to select additional units according to personal needs.

Who is this course for?

The CIM Marketing Leadership Programme 2017 has been developed in response to market needs. Its role is to help marketing professionals or aligned roles, develop the skills to lead change within dynamic organisations.

The programme is for experienced marketers who aspire to work at a strategic marketing or senior management level. It is also a valuable development for established marketers who would like to build further expertise or refresh their marketing capabilities.  It is also suitable for those who work within organisations at management level, work in creative agencies or for consultants working in large organisations or as independent business owners.  Candidates from non-marketing professions are also eligible to join the programme, subject to entry criteria.

Key elements of the programme

This exciting and challenging programme includes both taught sessions, personal coaching and assessments.  These are all designed to enable the candidate to use the challenges they face in the work situation to identify and recommend commercial alternatives.  The course leverages real world practice, with emerging trends and academic rigour, to enable candidates to develop and deliver actionable recommendations.

The core focus of the programme is the ability to facilitate and implement change within organisations.  So whilst it will lead to a qualification, the assessments are designed to reflect live challenges that a leader would face in the work place.  The programme is designed to be flexible and can suit organisations of all sizes and sectors.  It develops both the mindset and capabilities to identify innovative solutions with deliverable results.  Each unit includes three days face to face sessions (spread across three to four months), 3x coaching sessions – customised to you, course materials, course texts, course refreshments, tutor support and feedback.  The Leadership Programme is tailored due to course requirements and its transitional nature in role change.

Entry criteria

The CIM require that you meet one or more of the following criteria:

  1. For CIM Members who have attained the Level 6 Diploma, along with suitable work experience, there is automatic entry onto the course.  For those applying from other disciplines or professions, a Level 6 qualification is required.  For all applicants, a CV is required to show evidence of career progression (past, present and future) and work experience.
  2. Experience working a marketing management level
  3. Scope of current role is sufficient to allow engagement with assessment tasks
  4. IELTS 6.5 and above

How will you be assessed?

The programme consists of four units.  Two are mandatory and two are electives, where you can select that which is most beneficial for your current or future role.  Three units must be completed and passed to gain the qualification.  All units are assessed by work related assignment (written reports/documents/presentations).

How long will the qualification take?

There are three assessment sessions per year in April, July and December. Each unit is estimated to take between three and six months.  This means that the total qualification time is between nine and eighteen months.  This allows candidates to plan their studies in and around work-led initiatives.

Gain Chartered Marketer status

This prestigious level is attained from CIM through a combination of qualification, experience and commitment to continual professional development (CPD).  Having attained MCIM or FCIM status first (through qualification or longevity of senior level experience), two years consecutive CPD, validated by CIM, lead to chartered status.  By studying this qualification, you can move closer and quicker to achieving Chartered Status. It helps you stand out from the crowd and gain credibility that might otherwise rely on career experience (time to attain).




Tuition fees are payable to Goldcrest Academy, please enquire for further information on these at contact us.  CIM membership and assessment entry fees are in addition. CIM membership is £55 for twelve months.  CIM assessment entry fees for the Marketing Leadership Programme are £280 per unit.  These can be paid direct to CIM online.  It is the candidate’s responsibility to book the correct exam board.
